For a medium sized yard, the ubiquitous push mower is still the best choice. Be aware, though, that there are many choices in brand names and options to influence your decision. With recent concerns about gasoline prices, it is only natural to want to take a look at electric lawn mowers and similar alternatives. Perhaps they will be a good choice for you, but be sure to take into consideration the inconvenience of dragging a power cord around the yard. With battery-operated electric mowers, the battery is rather heavy and cumbersome, to some people’s minds. Fortunately the regular gas-powered mower is fuel efficient if kept in good working order, and it can be counted upon to last a long time if well cared for.
If you have a big area of acreage to mow, a riding lawnmower or tractor may be the biggest time-saver for you., Even in the common push mower, there are various mechanisms for assisted pulling. Many of these mowers work with gear systems so the engine turns the wheels for you. The problem with these types of mowers is maneuverability. If you need to turn and move the mower around much of the time, you will constantly be disengaging the gears to take over the controls. Besides a good mower, there is some other equipment you should consider buying. A trimmer for reaching areas a mower cannot reach is one. Saws can take care of branches growing low to the ground when there are trees that hang over the yard. A spreader makes the distribution of granualar fertilizer and weed killer much easier and can be used several times annually. Round out matters will some hoses and sprinklers and you are all set with the basics. With this set of tools, you will be prepared to keep a good-looking yard through all the seasons.
